Earth Songs Series (Ceramic Resonance & Exotic Rhythms) (click to enlarge)

The Earth Songs series was born out of my aloneness
in my studio. I love to listen to music when I work,
everything from classical to jazz, blues and country
music. Sometimes when an upbeat song begins, I
take a break and do a kind of aerobic dance to
rejuvenate me in body and mind. If I am too busy or
am too muddy to take a break, I just sing along and/or
make percussion sounds with my mouth to
accompany the music.
One day I was bored and just fooling around sculpting
a small hollow heart form. I threw in a few tiny balls of
clay before I closed it up and set it aside. The next
day the dried clay heart was sitting there and I picked
it up and shook it. It sounded really great! I started
thinking about all the things I could make that would
stimulate the sense of sound.
Oh, I still make weird sounds with my mouth when a
good song comes on, but now I have a whole pile of
noise making "instruments" which are just for me, and
when the mood strikes me, I play Earth Songs.
